AI Era Arrives, Which Note-Taking Apps Am I Still Using?

Let’s talk about the “data silos” of note-taking apps, and how I leverage AI to overcome the obstacles they create.

Question

A few days ago, I received a message in my knowledge planet from a fellow member, ZerO-Santa. He said he joined the planet because he had read many of my articles on note-taking and efficiency tools. Although he’s interested in the AI I’ve been talking about lately, ZerO-Santa is still curious about which note-taking tools I’m currently using.

The translation goes as:

Hi Professor Wang, I initially got into note-taking because of your recommendations and the apps you featured. However, I’ve noticed that lately you’ve been focusing heavily on AI (which I’m also very interested in!). I was hoping you could share what your current primary note-taking setup looks like.

I thought this was a great question and decided to write an article to explain it in detail. But when I went to the message area and looked, I saw a comment from someone saying: “As a former Roam Research user, how does Teacher Wang…?”

The translation goes as:

I’m also curious. I’ve been using Roam Research for 5 years, and was even a believer, but lately I’ve been feeling more and more that Roam lacks sincerity. It’s far less dynamic than Obsidian, and rarely has any truly significant updates. Recently, I’ve found Roam’s integration with Zotero to be really poor, and I’m wondering whether to switch to Obsidian. But I also feel like the difference might not be that big, and maybe it’s not worth it? I’m very curious about your opinion, as a former Roam user, and whether you have any advice for my situation.

To be honest, after reading this message, I was a little amused: Who said I was a “former” Roam Research user? I’m still using it.
