After the launch of Claude 3, it has been making waves. The “extra-large” Opus model claims to crush GPT-4 on all metrics. Recently, an article about the applications of Claude 3 in various scientific fields went viral in my social media feed. The article mentioned Claude 3’s applications in materials science, physics, mathematics and other research areas, which was very exciting. It seemed like with this new large language model, scientific research work could be handed over to it. This article garnered widespread attention, but many people were also skeptical. Since I don’t know much about materials science, I also shared the article to get opinions from others.

The result was that my friends had very mixed views. Some thought it was useful while others thought it was useless. Rather than getting caught up in these debates, why not try it out for ourselves?
